Description: Antique c.1880s Advertising Trade Card"Surgery for Pianoforte Players"w/ Before & After ImagesProfessor of Music, E.S. Bonelli, San Francisco, CA An unusual antique trade card dating to the 1880's. The card advocates the severing of ring-finger accessory tendons in order to improve finger power and dexterity for piano players. The card even shows before-and-after images of a hand, showing where the tendons were severed in the after image. This card was distributed by Professor of Music, E.S. Bonelli of Market Street in San Francisco, CA. The card also features the names of his pupils who had the operation as a testimonial. Further adding to the odd-nature of this piece is the statement that "the operation, which is simple and painless, when properly done, can be performed by any family physician." SIZE & CONDITION: The card measures 4.5" by 3.5" in size. The front does have the word "over" written at the bottom to ensure people would read the back side. No creases, no pin holes, no staining.
