Description: This rare "GOLD FIELDS OF CRIPPLE CREEK" Colorado Mining Booklet was printed by the WOODS INVESTMENT COMPANY in Victor, Colorado for the 1901 PAN-AMERICAN EXPO in Buffalo N.Y. Its 7 3/4" X 5 1/4" with 48 pages and was printed to showcase the Woods "empire" properties and businesses in the Cripple Creek District, the most famous being the GOLD COIN MINE in the heart of Victor. Part of their exhibition included a large display of 166 local minerals enumerated toward the back of this booklet As the founders of Victor in 1893 the Woods owned or controlled numerous mines as well as the power company, a bank, a mill, a local railroad, lumber and hardware outfits and more. By 1904 the Woods were operating as THE UNITED GOLD MINES COMPANY. I also have currently listed their 1904 annual report that lists and shows all of their extensive holdings and interests. The PAN-AMERICAN EXPO is where President McKINLEY was shot and died 8 days later thrusting the VP, Teddy Roosevelt, who was campaigning in Victor just a couple of months earlier, to the Presidency. The rest is history as they say. I will also include 10 free early Cripple Creek District checks. This auction is for the Gold Fields booklet only.
