Description: 1934 news poster: The Young Folks Take the Spotlight This is a rare Illustrated Current News poster, dated Aug. 10, 1934. It measures 12.5 x 19 inches in size. Printed on glossy paper, it is in excellent condition, with two old fold lines, as originally issued, plus four thumbtack perforations in the blank left margin, where it used to be pinned up. (These Illustrated Current News posters were published 3 times a week. They were folded into quarters when they were mailed to subscribers, which were typically stores or newsstands which displayed them for viewing by their customers.) This poster presents three scenes from the Depression Era featuring young children, as light human interest stories for its audience. One features famous heavyweight boxing champ Jack Dempsey, and another touts "the largest Italian family in the country"! The poster's caption describes them this way: 1. The Laterra family of Frankin Park, Ill., the largest Italian family in the country, having dinner at the Italian Village at the Worlds Fair. The Laterras have 19 children. 2. Jack Dempsey, now a staid business man, is the proud father of a seven and a half pound baby girl. Here he is receiving congratulations from a little girl whom he is holding. 3. The quadruplets born in June to Mr. and Mrs. Wycoff of Sac City, Ia. Lorraine, at the extreme left, died shortly after this photograph was taken. The poster has the National Recovery Act eagle symbol in its bottom left corner, with the slogan, NRA Member - U.S. - We Do Our Part. [gsp12307b] _gsrx_vers_1680 (GS 9.8.3 (1680))
