Description: Overview of 1957 Ford Thunderbird For Sale by OwnerThe first-generation Thunderbird was introduced in 1954 as Ford’s answer to the Chevy Corvette that came out the year before. To call it a direct competitor of the Vette would, however, be inaccurate. While the Corvette was a small and lightweight 2-seater with a fiberglass body (to compete with European sports cars), the T-Bird was more of a 2-seater personal luxury car for a younger demographic of buyers (being smaller and lighter than most Detroit products at the time). In fact, in its first production year, it outsold the Corvette by a massive margin. In total, over 53,000 first-generation Thunderbirds were made in 3 years of production, with 1957 being the most successful year with 21,000 built this model year. Exterior and InteriorThis beautiful 1957 T-Bird is Gunmetal Grey with a Raven Black Hardtop (color code: NA) with a matching Black and White Interior (Code: XA). It has had a body off restoration by a shop in New Jersey that specialized in Thunderbird's in 2020. The condition of the car certainly seems to be testimony to this; the chrome and paintwork were all redone at the time of the restoration as well as the engine and transmission were fully rebuilt. No corners were cut on this build and it turned into an absolutely stunning car. Being a 1957 model, it has a redesigned front bumper, and bigger taillights, tailfins and front grille. 1957 also saw the spare wheel being moved back inside the trunk, mounted vertically. This car is equipped with a Retro Sounds radio that has AM/FM and bluetooth all tucked into the factory AM Radio location(The original radio is also included in the sale). EngineThe Thunderbird has the original 312ci V8 with a Ford-O-Matic 3 Speed automatic transmission. Both the engine and transmission were rebuilt at the time of the restoration. Right down to the original generator being rebuilt. It also has a new Holley 4 Barrel Carburetor that is tuned perfectly so the car starts right up and runs and drives perfectly. This car has manual brakes and manual steering tied with the OE style white wall bias ply tires, it is a time capsule back to the 50's.
