Description: 1958 U.S. MINT "BLUE DATE" PROOF SET - SEALED/UNOPENED - RARE! "FIRST STRIKES 1958 Unopened proof set with RARE early blue stamped date. During the first days of production and distribution of the 1958 Proof Sets, the Mint had not yet received the familiar golden envelopes with the Year of Issue printed upon them. All they had were envelopes that stated "P.C." in the lower left corner in black ink. The anticipated "1958-P.C." printed envelopes that are commonly seen today, were not yet available. But the coins were struck and needed to get out to collectors. The U.S. Mint went with the "P.C." envelopes they already had, and used an inked 1958 date stamp in the color of blue to go after the "P.C". The result was a Proof Set envelope that read "P.C. 1958" with the "P.C." in black that was printed and "1958" in blue that was stamped. The "Blue Date" Proof Sets have the very FIRST production run of coins in them, making them essentially First Strike coins!
