Description: 1960 Small, Large Dates, P&D 1¢ Set Of 4When building a set of Lincoln Memorial cents, there are two dates which cause some confusion, 1960 and 1982. Why would the mint or mints make such changes and how do you tell the difference? As the story goes; In early 1960 the US Engraving Department grew concerned that the small size of the numeral “0” in the date of that year’s cents would cause the dies to chip or become clogged(I have seen many small dates with die chipped numerals), replacing the delicate cipher with a round blob. Very early in 1960 the obverse master die was swapped out with one on which all four numerals had been enlarged. This was most noticeable as longer tails to the 9 and 6, but also distinctive is that the slightly oval 0 was enlarged and made perfectly round. This actually caused a collecting frenzy back in the 60's, and a price jump. Particularly the Philadelphia early small date which is still valued for its rarity. The '82s seven varieties is a story for another time. All four varieties content is Bronze (95% copper & 5% Zinc), diameter 19 mm, 3.11 grams Shipped Free to US, sales tax depends on your state.
