Description: 1986 Morrie Turner, Wee Pals archive, signed print, Christmas cards, Prophet of Peace, Martin Luther King About this item: Here’s an amazing archive devoted to Morrie Turner, artist of the nationally syndicated cartoon, Wee Pals. In 1986 my wife worked for Bank of America’s Public Relations Department and was tasked with promoting the bank’s financing of a video titled Prophet of Peace, a tribute to Martin Luther King, Jr. To launch the release, she arranged an event at Crocker Highlands School (Oakland) which introduced the 15 children who voiced the characters. The event also included a cake based on Turner’s art as well as pin-back buttons. The press-packet contains 23 sets of professional 8 x 10-inch B&W gelatin-silver photographs (10 unique images) chronicling the event, 10 color xeroxes (8-1/2 x 11 inches) reproducing images in the video, 2-pin-back buttons (made by Delancey Street) and the normal written materials describing the event, outlines of the video and miscellaneous other documents. An important addition are two signed copies of the 8-1/2 x 11-inch color xeroxes. One, of the characters high-fiving, was on display so the inks and signature have faded, but it still presents nicely. The portrait of Martin Luther King is pristine… both the inks and the signature. The event was such a success and fostered so much goodwill, my wife carried on a correspondence with Morrie over the years which consists mostly of Holiday cards and announcements. In all there are about 15 cards and other miscellany spanning 1986-2013. These mostly have printed signatures with an occasional short, handwritten note. There’s also a small Wee Pals 1990 calendar which could be used again in 2029. Finally, there are about 6 Holiday cards from Harold Lawrence, who produced the video, Prophet of Peace. Condition: All are in excellent condition although a few Holiday cards were mailers handled by the post office. The photographs and color xeroxes in the press packet are pristine (except for the one of the Wee Pals high-fiving… it has a tear at the top that does NOT impinge on the image. The documents are overall very good although the portfolio containing everything is ripped and scuffed. From a smoke-free and pet-free home. The pictures show the actual items you receive. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me. Shipping terms: I’ll package this in an envelope with stiffeners and mail via USPS Ground Advantage with tracking so it will weigh about 3lbs.
