Description: Item : Antique 19th Century HUNGARIAN OIL PAINTING Age : 18th-19th Century Condition : Good Dimensions : Frame 41”x29”x2 1/2” Stretcher 36”x24 1/2”x1” Notes : Estate lot purchase San Marino, CA. This antique art work is a good example of an oil painting that’s been relined. Upon removal, it was evident that the antique canvas was relined with another canvas using linen stabilizers, you can see a slight separation. Also, the wood stretcher and frame seem to be correct and original to the painting. Wood stretcher shows prior holes from the wood nails previously used. The canvas used for the reline is now stapled to the stretcher. Also, it looks like a thin varnish was used in need for the crackling and crazing. The frame has a Hungarian auction price tag (arcedula) bonded to it, but worn out with no provenance /artist info, and is not signed. The first photo in the listing was taken in natural light, the second photograph with heightened light source. Great attic find from an old historic district home in San Marino CA. Comes well packaged using acid free materials where needed.
