Description: This is for a 4" PATCH that reads: CALIFORNIA STATE PARKS - K-9 PROGRAM - SINCE 1969. Officially used by state park K9 officers, but not as a shoulder patch. The patch features a German Shepard. The state park canine (K-9) program began in 1969. Currently, there are over 17 K9 teams spread across the state. They work in various parks from historic Hearst Castle to the desert sand dunes of Ocotillo Wells. Since 1969, over 70 rangers and lifeguards have served as K9 handlers. Over the years, State Park K9 teams have apprehended armed robbery, burglary, and rape suspects as well as tracking and finding lost and injured members of the public. Today, in addition to patrol work, K9 teams are cross trained in either narcotics or explosives detection. They are called upon to perform their duties throughout the State Park system and regularly assist outside agencies. CSP Mission.
