Description: This RPPC (real photo postcard) appears to be a group at the Battle of Gettysburg reunion in 1913, or it could have been one of the G.A.R. Encampments which were held annually from 1866 to 1949. The tents and water basins in front of them appear to be the same as seen in old photos of the 50th Reunion of the Battle of Gettysburg, which took place in 1913, but I cannot be sure. The postcard was marked "729" on the left side of the photo, which I thought possibly indicated it was a photo of GAR Post No. 729 (John C. Fremont), which was a post located in Alliance, Ohio, but I learned that because there were 7,000 posts around the country, they often selected a delegate to represent the post at the encampments. Therefore, these men aren't necessarily from the same post. They could be representatives of multiple posts. If anyone has any more information on this, please let me know! The sign the soldiers are holding came out pure white in the photo, so unfortunately, we do not know what the sign said. (You could put your own message on it and mail it to a friend!) Postcard measures 3.75" x 6" with matte finish, mint condition. Satisfaction guaranteed! Limit quantities of this rare postcard are available.
