Item specifics are: Film 1: "America For Me" (1950s) COLOR Runtime 30 minutes This jaw dropping film, made about the many wonderful reasons to travel Greyhound, is just about the corniest thing this side of Kansas. Centered around this very flimsy love story between a cowboy and a very uptight female traveler, this movie has it all. Overt sexism, double entendres, BAD process shots, Grey hounds the only available transport in the whole universe (they're the only thing on the road it seems) and much much more! It's perfectly obvious that the actors didn't step out of the sound stage for this one, and to top it all off, we get all the actors SINGING AT THE END! A screwball classic of the highest order.Film Release Date: 1950 Film Entered the Public Domain: 1979 Film 2: "Freedom Highway" (1956) COLOR Runtime 35 minutes A Greyhound bus transports us through the landscape of American mythology. What are the chances of meeting Tex Ritter on a Greyhound? Even though it has the 'star' power of Tommy Kirk AND Tex Ritter, Freedom Highway isn't as good or delirious as "America For Me" and but still woth a watch. Essentially, it follows a LONG Greyhound bus trip from SF to Washington DC, with everyone looking peppy-go-lucky even though they've probably been travelling for days on end. The story follows a number of characters, a boy meeting his troop in Washington, A disgruntled man picking up a congressional medal of honor for his late son, a bit of a laughable love story between a football player and a lady, and a bit of a mystery passenger who's identity, well, still remains a mystery. While all of this is going on, we get history lessons about What Made America So Great as they pass by each location (The Alamo, Boston Tea Party etc) which does nothing except pad the movie. Oh right, Tex Ritter pops in for a scene or two and laughably says he prefers hopping on the Greyhound to get a glimpse of the country. Eh, Tex? Weren't you making enough money to get a bus of your own? Finally, I just want to finish off this by talking a little bit about the 'mystery' passenger. No one bothers to really ask who this person is (when they do, it's brushed off) or why he knows everyone's name etc. The 'secret' at the end of the film about his identity is not really a big surprise, but why he was on the bus in the first place (or where he was coming from?) is the big mystery here. Film Release Date: 1956 Film Entered the Public Domain: 1985 Film 3: "The Bus Driver " (1946) B&W Runtime 10 minutes No Romance or Singing, Fortunately, on This Bus Ride Straightforward Encyclopedia Britannica film for kids about drivers of long-distance buses. We see a boy and his father go on a long-distance bus ride, and a narrator explains what is happening. About as gripping as, well, a long-distance bus ride. Film Release Date: 1946 Film Entered the Public Domain: 1975 I claim ownership and rights to this media.
