[Theaker not credited.] MacMillan. 1911. First Edition thus. Red cloth boards with gilt rabbit to front and gilt titling to spine. 16 full page color plates on coated paper. 4to. [See: Lovett & Lovett 67]. In this listing the comparable U.S. edition of the Tenniel plates colorized by an uncredited illustrator. Unlike the Macmillan volume, all the plates are chromolithographs. (They appear to be "borrowed," as was the common practice of American publishers, from Alice and The Nursery Alice. [McKay seemed to have published two variants: one with a color plate mounted to the front of yellow cloth boards and titling in black. That is the present volume. And, a volume with a pictorial design stamped to the boards and spine, with gilt titling to the spine.] Cloth boards retain excellent color. Pictorial pastedown very attractive. Just very minor rubbing to spine tips, corners. Exterior near fine +. Binding solid. Still tight. Previous owner's name to top of blank ffep. Text block very clean and handsome.
