Description: I'm pleased to offer this attractive specimen of Galena and a bit of Calcite on Marcasite from the Pomorzany mine, Cmina Olkusz, Poland. The specimen measures 3.75 x 2.05 x .80 inches or 9.52 x 5.22 x 2.03cm and is in excellent condition. This is from the John Weber (1926-2015) collection of Phoenix, Arizona. John's family donated his huge collection to the Pinal Geology and Mineral Museum in Coolidge, Arizona and I was able to buy a few flats on non-Arizona specimens that did not fit the focus of the collection. At this time, I am not buying specimens from the PGMM for my own use but am listing them on behalf of the museum. This piece, however, is from my initial purchase of perhaps 100 specimens from the collection. The Pomorzany mine was worked for zinc up until 2020 and is renown among collectors for the superb schalenblende specimens that were collected in huge numbers from the underground workings. These are attractive and banded mixtures of galena, marcasite, sphalerite and wurtzite for the most part. Not all of these minerals are present in every piece but a simple Google search for "schalenblende Poland" will give one a great idea of this fabulous material. This piece shows lustrous and modified cuboctahedral galena crystals on crystalline marcasite with a couple nondescript calcite crystals. I have cleaned this specimen and it is now brighter than the photos show. The minerals are present on a thin plate of the typical dolostone that hosts most of the economic mineralization at the mine. This is a classic Polish locality and I pick these up (not often enough!) whenever possible--the schalenblende specimens are still readily available in superb polished specimens. Please check my feedback and my other eBay items. All specimens are carefully wrapped, come with complete and accurate labels and are quickly shipped. As always, your complete satisfaction is unconditionally guaranteed and I even offer FREE return shipping on any item that fails to satisfy for any reason---you can't go wrong. I'm reminded of the firm pledge printed on the old Foote Mineral Company mineral catalogs from more than a century ago, "Quality of specimens is assured as we permit return of specimens at our expense." Thanks for looking! I buy collections! Please contact me if you have a collection for sale or know of one that is available. I will pay a finder's fee to anyone that can point me to an eventual purchase!
