๐Ÿ”ฅ RARE Antique Vintage French Impressionist DIVAN JAPONAIS Lithograph, LAUTREC

Description: This is a wonderful and RARE Antique Vintage French Impressionist DIVAN JAPONAIS Lithograph on Paper, by the esteemed French Post-Impressionist painter and printmaker and Henri de Toulouse Lautrec (1864 - 1901.) This authentic French color lithograph was created in the early 20th century by the famous French Parisian lithographic printer, Edward Ancourt (b. 1841.) This piece features an acclaimed artwork by Toulouse Lautrec, which is titled " Divan Japonais" at the upper edge. It was originally created in 1893. Henri de Toulouse Lautrec (1864 - 1901) was a French painter, printmaker, and illustrator whose immersion in the colorful and theatrical life of late 19th century Paris allowed him to produce a collection of enticing, elegant and provocative images of the modern, sometimes decadent affairs of those times. Lautrec was commissioned in 1893 to create the original poster artwork for this piece by the owner of Divan Japonais, a cafe chantant in the Paris Montmartre neighborhood. This artwork was inspired by the popular Eastern influenced Japonisme style, which found popularity with several Post-Impressionist luminaries, including Vincent Van Gogh (1853 - 1890.) This piece features three prominent figures of the Montmartre nightlife: A cancan dancer, the famous Jane Avril in foreground, the writer Edouard Dujardin beside her, and performer Yvette Guilbert, identified by her signature black gloves on the stage. It reads: "DIVAN JAPONAIS. 75 Rue des Martyrs" at the tope edge. At the lower left edge, it also reads: Ed Fournier. Directeur." Additionally, this piece is Signed in Plate, "HT Lautrec" in the lower right corner. Approximately 25 7/8 x 32 3/8 inches (including frame.) Actual visible artwork (not covered by the matting) is approximately 17 3/4 x 23 1/4 inches. Good condition for over a century of age and display use, with mild - moderate sun fading to the yellow-colored areas of the print. Additionally, there is some mild scuffing and edge wear to the vintage wood frame, and some light speckles of soiling along the edges of the exposed print. (Please see photos carefully.) This artwork is Priced to Sell. Other art dealers who are lucky enough to own an original early rendering of Divan Japonais commonly ask between 4K - 7K for this same specific print edition. Acquired from an old and eclectic estate collection in Los Angeles County, California. If you like what you see, I encourage you to make an Offer. About the Artist: Henri De Toulouse-Lautrec Born: 1864 - Albi, FranceDied: 1901 - Malrome, FranceKnown for: Demi-monde paintings, printmaking, illustrationName variants: Henri Marie Raymond De Toulouse-Lautrec, Toulouse Lautrec Henri De Toulouse-Lautrec (1864 - 1901) was active/lived in France. Henri Toulouse Lautrec is known for Demi-monde paintings, printmaking, illustration. Henri Toulouse-Lautrec became one of France's most prominent Post-Impressionist painters and capturing the night life of part of the city, was described as "the soul of Montmartre." He also did a number of illustrations for the magazine Le Rire during the 1890's.Toulouse-Lautrec was born in Albi, France, in the mid-Pyranees region. He was the first child of a Count and Countess whose aristocratic lineage dated back over a thousand years but whose fortune had collapsed before he was born. At birth, they gave him the full name of Henri Marie Raymond de Toulouse-Lautrec Monfa. The parents were first cousins, and credited to inbreeding were the many birth defects that Henri suffered including an osteoporosis condition that left him with weak bones that did not heal properly when his legs were fractured when he was ages 13 and 14. In adulthood, he was only four feet and six inches in height, although his torso was fully developed. Growing up, he was unable to participate in normal activities, so he turned to art expression.Toulouse-Lautrec moved to Paris in 1882 in order to learn from artists by working with them in their studios. He was especially impressed with Impressionist painter and sculptor Edgar Degas. Lautrec's subjects were primarily the bohemian world of Montmartre, the city's quarter where he lived and the area that had a mix that included starving' artists, actors, actresses, singers and dancers such as La Goulue who created the Can Can and performed at the Moulin Rouge. It was also the location of racetracks, dancehalls and many bars and brothels, likely the places where he, a frequent visitor, got the syphilis that along with excessive alcohol consumption added to his health problems and caused his death. He partied and sketched the nightlife, and in the daytime, converted his sketches into paintings and lithographs. Shortly before he died on September 9, 1901at the age of 36, he was put in a sanatorium after his highly protective mother was unable to keep him at home. He is buried in Malromรฉ at his family's estate, and he is buried in Verdelais, Gironde, close to his death place. The Comtesse Adรฉle Toulouse-Lautrec, his mother, and his dealer, Maurice Joyant, worked hard after his death to keep his name alive and promote his artwork. Because of their efforts, a museum in Albi was built in his honor. Two movies titled Moulin Rouge are about his life.
