Description: Comoy's Sandblast Extraordinaire 309 Slightly Canted Canadian Made in London England. The nomenclature is clean, crisp, and easy to read. The "Extraordinaire" name was given to special pipes that were out of the ordinary size or grain. Comoy's Sandblasts were introduced in the 1920s, and Extraordinaires were introduced in the 1930s. I have tried to get a solid date on this particular one, but all I am sure of is that it is post 1950s and pre-1979 due to the font style of the nomenclature and lack of a number 1 or 11 after "Extraordinaire" plus, "Made in London England " fully spelt out. It should be noted that there is no "3 part C" on the stem. It could mean that the stem was replaced at some point. If so, it is a very good replacement aside from the absence of the C. I mention this because Comoy's has been adding the 3 part C in their stem for over 100 years until recently. Now, it is laser imprinted. A rare offering and opportunity, especially already restored. I see these pop up from time to time on eBay for auction, but not in this condition and not in this combination of "Sandblast" + "Extraordinaire" + "309." This rare pipe is in fantastic shape and barely smoked. One just sold at auction for $333.33 (used, not restored). Measurements: Weight - 35.79 g Overall pipe length - 6.75" / 171.45 mm Shank length - 3.68" / 93.6 mm Stem length - 1.63" / 41.4 mm Bowl hight - 1.9" / 48.3 mm Bowl width - 1.34" / 34.2 mm Chamber depth - 1.76" / 44.7 mm Chamber width - .80" / 20.3mm The pipe has been fully cleaned inside and out. Reamed, restained, buffed, and waxed. All teeth marks removed and stem deoxidized. It's used but ready to be smoked again. It still has many years left in it. I try to take good pictures from many angles. If you require more pictures on a pipe you're interested in, just ask. I try very hard to get the "ghosts" out of every pipe. This is usually possible, but occasionally, no matter how hard I try, and with every method exhausted (salt & alcohol, Everclear & cotton balls, retort with Everclear, ozone treatment), it just isn't possible. It's the nature of the beast, I suppose. God knows what some people smoked and how much of it. I hand sand and polish all my pipe stems rather than on the buffing wheel. It's just my preference. I also always ream the bowls down to briar. I do not leave any cake. I follow it up with an organic food grade bowl coating. If bowl coatings aren't your thing, then it's easily removed with a damp paper towel. I very rarely use tenon expanders on loose stems. Most of the time, bees wax does the trick just fine. I prepare all my pipes to my preferences. If they aren't your preferences, I'm sorry but you don't have to buy any. This is how I prefer it to be done. You don't have to agree and again, you don't have to buy any. If any significant repairs were done, then it will definitely be stated in detail. All pipes that I sell as refurbished, refreshed, repaired, restored, etc. will be in ready to smoke condition. Just add your tobacco of choice, and you're ready to go. The prices I ask for my pipes are a reflection of the work that went into them and the materials/supplies used. This is not a cheap process and can be very time-consuming. I offer my services on pipes so anyone interested can contact me for more information. I also buy pipes. It can be 1 pipe or many. Just contact me to work it out the details.
