Description: This is a very rare, very old (possibly late 1700's or early 1800's) Wedgwood jasper two-handled bowl. Made with tricolors (lilac, green, and white/grey) With "Wedgwood" mark impressed at the bottom, and only one letter. Also impressed is a small, perfect circle. This small tri-colored piece maybe from an earlier time of Wedgwood. Extremely rare.(from an old English lady's estate in Connecticut) With exception of one issue this piece is still in such nice condition, it's not easy after 200+ years ! Especially when you hold it in your hands, you will feel its quality, good craftsmanship and old pieces's charm. The one issue is a tight crack line (or professional restoration) that runs across the bottom (see pictures #6,7,10). From many angles you don't even see it, either from outside or inside. See other pictures. Glazed inside. Dimensions:4 inches handle-to-handle1 3/8 inches tall. Another reason this piece maybe old:This seems to be a SOLID jasper - the colored-clay is stained through out. See last picture. In 1777, a few years after Wedgwood started making jasperware in 1770's, they started producing "dipped" jasperware to save cost - to dye only the surface of the colored clay while the inside and back is in original color which is white. As you can see in the last picture of the only tiny chip, the green clay on this piece is solid green (inside is also green !) ! So we are actually fortunate to have this tiny chip ! Add this rare piece to elevate your Wedgwood collection !
