Description: Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE This vintage Staunton chess set is from France in the 1950s. The pieces are wood, handcrafted and in great condition, a lacquer finish. One white rook has a chip on the parapet, as shown. The set is well balanced and offers good size and stability on the board, very comfortable for playing. The set comes with original storage box with sliding lid. The tongues to fit in the sliding grooves are worn off, so you need to use ribbon or rubber band to keep the box closed. There is a glue spot on the lid, apparently from an image of a pasted-on chess piece. One could easily glue on another image to cover this. King measures about 2.25 inches tall. The divided box measures 6 x 3.25 x 2.25 inches. Comes from a smoke-free home.
