Approximately 27,000 were made for Venezuela. This was patterned after the Belgian M1889 bayonet. They were originally made with a quillon but most of them have been cut off. Overall, this bayonet is in Fair - Good condition, considering its age and history. The press catch is functional with average spring tension. Both the pommel and guard are securely fastened to the tang. They have oxidation and scrapes. The finish was in the white, but the remaining finish has turned a gray patina color. The rivets securely fasten the grips. They have light oxidation. The grip panels have light compressions and draglines. The wood has darkened with age. The blade's spine and fullers have oxidation and scrapes. The blade edge has no nicks or dings and appears to have its original factory edge. The tip is intact and comes to a semi-sharp straight point. The finish is in the white, but there is scattered light discoloration. There is a layer of dried cosmoline on it. The right guard is marked with the serial number "3897". The scabbard is in Fair - Good condition, considering its age and history. The frog stud is securely fastened to the body. The body has oxidation and scrapes. Most of the coloring still remains, but has turned a patina color. The scabbard has no visible markings. This bayonet and scabbard will be a great addition to your Venezuelan Gewehr 1871/84 rifle, or a bayonet collection in general.
